Now that’d be forgivable if the actual editing was on point. I understand this is a difficult idea to execute, and the timeline would be hard to reveal in the right way. Felt like the mood of the movie was not represented by the cinematography at all.Įditing: the pacing of this movie felt all over the place, there were numerous cuts that felt extremely jarring, shots where I could see the audio not link up with the actors mouths, shots that broke the 180 rule for no reason, sequences that had no flow and the timeline was extremely choppy. None of the colouring in the movie felt interesting, and the house was very stereotypical. The blocking of the actors oftentimes felt happenstance and rarely felt purposeful. And the accent? Was it meant to be satirical? I felt like I was going crazy.Ĭinematography: I’ve been studying a lot of cinematography lately, and I know you don’t have to make every scene a work of art for it to be a good movie, but the lighting and shots in the movie left plenty to be desired. Daniel Craig’s character was possibly the worse caricature of the ‘famous detective’ I’ve seen. Everyone else felt like an amateur theatre actor trying their hand at the big screen for the first time and not knowing how to deliver their lines believably. In saying that, the only performance I didn’t cringe at was Chris Evans. I know comedy is subjective but I think I laughed once in the entire movie, the lines were just so corny and uninspired.Īcting: now this goes hand in hand with the script because I feel like when the dialogue is written so stiffly - the acting will always be severely limited. “what’s the cheese?” And many other examples just had me sighing. “I’m so full of adrenaline, I feel like I’m full of bees!” What? Who says this. There were numerous bizarre one-liners that just felt so out of place. The dialogue was campy, unnatural, and had so much exposition my eyes couldn’t stop rolling. It almost feels like a movie aimed at kids. Let’s break down why I think this movie is shithouse.ĭialogue: the script feels like it was written by a first year college student and they’re trying to fit in dialogue that just doesn’t flow. Usually I can see it’s just not my thing, or I have a different taste, but not this time. I’m really confused why it’s critically acclaimed and everyone seems to love it. Before people jump and say I just don’t like the director - I haven’t seen Star Wars and haven’t seen any of Rian’s other movies, other than Looper (which I thought was good when I saw it). I went in to this movie with moderate expectations, and was still let down.
